Very good condition; damaged spine ends, cover shows extensive rubbing, multiple soft creases across cover corners; internally few occasional foxing, mainly along upper edge of the sheets. 


From November 18 to December 9, 1938 following the state initiative, there was an exhibition at the Riga City Art Museum to mark the 10th anniversary of the Republic of Latvia. It was the most notable event in Latvian art life arranged during the last 10 years. The exhibition was intended to introduce all the most important art achievements during the last decade. In exhibition participated 123 artists with 699 works - paintings, sculpture, graphic art and drawing compositions, items of applied arts, decorative sketches, etc. The Latvian Ministry of Education supported the participation of all Latvian artists’ unions in the exhibition: Latvju mākslinieku biedrība (Association of Latvian Artists) was represented with the works of Augusts Annuss, Jēkabs Bīne, Alfons Mihailovskis, Janis Pupols, Pauls Sprenks, Pēteris Upītis, etc.; from Neatkarīgo mākslinieku vienība (Union of Independent Artists) were exhibited Emma Baltmans, Arturs Baumanis, Aleksandrs Cīrulis, Alberts Filka, Nikolajs Puzirevskis, etc.; Rīgas Grafiķu biedrība (Association of Riga Graphic Artists) was represented by Sigismunds Vidbergs; among participants of Rīgas mākslinieku grupa (Riga Artists’ Group) were Jānis Cielavs, Jānis Liepiņš, Marta Skulme, Uga Skulme, Leo Svemps, Erasts Šveics, etc.; Mākslinieku biedrība "Sadarbs" (Artists’ Association “Sadarbs”) displayed artworks of Ludolfs Liberts, Alberts Prande, Jānis Siliņš, Jūlijs Madernieks, etc; Mākslinieku biedrība ”Zaļā Vārna” (Artists’ Association “Green Crow”) exhibited works by Jānis Plase, Francisks Varslavāns, Kārlis Baltgailis, etc. Among famous participant artists, whose membership in associations is not identified were: Aleksandra Beļcova, Roman Suta, Niklavs Strunke, Otto Pladers, Vilhelms Purvītis, Gustavs Šķilters, Jānis Roberts Tillbergs, Valdemars Tone, Konrāds Ubāns and many others. Among important acquisitions made by the Riga City Art Museum from the current exhibition were painting “Pilsētnieces” (City girls) by Kārļis Miesnieks, painting “Melnās bārkstis” (Black fringe) by Kārļis Brencēns, gypsum fragment of writer Augusts Deglavs grave monument by Jānis Jansons (all these works are shown on the illustrations included at the end).


Exhibition catalog includes introductory article by exhibition organizing committee, list of works exhibited (with artist reference to artistic group affiliation), 98 artworks reproductions across 86 pages. Catalog is printed on high quality coated paper.
