Writer's leftist novel "The Red Wind" published on the threshold of a 50 year anniversary portrays the class struggle, but the sharp social criticism here became less noticeable. In the current work it seems writer have regained faith in people and began to find positive aspects on every side, regardless of which layer a person belongs to or what his truth is. The novel depicts upheavals in people's lives of small Estonian village since beginning of the Estonian War of Independence in 1917 until the end of the Civil War in 1920. The War broke out and changed idyllic life of the villagers. Protagonist is hesitating between two opposing camps - Reds and Whites. But belief in justice helps him to overcome difficult times. 

 

Mait Metsanurk (1879-1957) was an Estonian writer who led the neo-realist school of Estonian literature. He reached literary breakthrough in 1908 with realistic descriptions of the Estonian town and country life of that time. In particular, the social contradictions and tensions are processed in his work. Metsanurk became one of the most prolific and popular writer and playwright of his era. Together with Anton Hansen Tammsaare, he is considered one of the most outstanding representatives of the Estonian realism in the interwar period. 

 

Book's striking avant-garde cover design created by oustanding Estonian artist Mart Laarman (1896-1979), who was mostly known as a developer of cubism and constructivism in the national art. He mastered oil painting and
