Near Fine condition; creases across front cover corners, ripped upper right corner of front cover was restored (pasted with book repair tape from the inner side), small scratch to the bottom part of the front cover, back cover shows slight foxing. 

The current play is dealing with Estonia’s ethical and spiritual problems of the time dramatized in context of the Biblical themes. Based on the Old Testament story about judge named Samson, author projected the views, searches and disappointments of contemporary man onto his protagonist Judge Simson. Raudsepp himself believeы it to be one of his best works.

Hugo Raudsepp (1883-1952) one of the leading writers of comedies and dramas in Estonia, one of the major participants of the modernist Siuru literary movement. He became especially known for his realistic and symbolical plays, addressing the political and social issues of the day with satire. Arrested by the NKVD in 1951, he was sent to a labour camp in Siberia, there he died during construction of the Baikal-Amur Mainline.

Book's remarkable avant-garde cover design by one of the most important Estonian avant-garde artists Mart Laarman (1896-1979). He is known as one of the leaders of the cubist-constructivist movement called The Group of Estonian Artists, founded in 1923. He  turned a new page in book design by creating numerous iconic minimalist-constructivist covers and enriching bibliographic printed matter with book-blocks which were unique in Estonia.
