The society of artists “Moskovskiy Salon” (Moscow Salon) was founded in 1910 by a group of graduates of the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, headed by artists Ivan Zakharov and Valentin Yakovlev. The aim of the Salon was “Tolerance of all beliefs in art… The unification of various directions in painting in one exhibition. This systematic grouping will clarify the principles and ideas that inspire them” (From the catalogue of the first exhibition, Moscow, 1911). Although, each of the member artists focused on developing own individual approaches, but they were united by a desire for interesting artistic experiments, and to get away from the principles of impressionism and cubism. In the period 1911-1920 the Moscow Salon had organized 7 exhibitions of painting, graphics and sculpture. The Society ceased to exist in spring of 1921. Later, some of its former members joined “Zhar-Tsvet” (Fire-Bright Bloom) artists society (1923-1929).

The catalog issued to accompany the 6th penulatimate exhibition of the Moscow Salon, which was held from 15 February to 19 March 1917, contains list of Society's Members (29 artists) and its Board as of 1917 year, as well as the list of 334 exhibited artworks by 36 participants – Valentin Yakovlev, Ivan Zakharov, Nikolai Grigoriev, Matvei Dobrov, Yevgeny Kamzolkin, Avagim Miganadzhian, Aleksandr Mikhailovskiy, Isaak Mendelevitch, Nadezhda Bom-Grigorieva, Leonid Feinberg, etc. According to the catalog’s inscription, thiscopy belonged to the Chairman of the Society - Yevgeny Kamzolkin, who made numerous notes in the text.
