Catalog for art exhibition organized by Latvian Independent Artists' Society in 1926 contains list of 195 artworks by 42 participants and 17 black-and-white reproductions. Were represented different forms and techniques of visual art: painting (oil, pastels, watercolors, tempera); drawing (graphite, ink); printmaking (etching, wood engraving); sculpture (bronze, terracotta). Also were showed weaving with wool as a kind of applied arts. Among the participants were organization members and important Latvian artists: Jekabs Bine, Aleksandrs Cirulis, Francisks Varslavans, Janis Ansohns, Janis Jaunsudrabins, Aleksandrs Strals, Peteris Kundzins, Nikolajs Puzirevskis, Janis Tillbergs, Janis Pupols etc.


Independent Artists' Society was one of the first Latvian creative associations that emerged after the proclamation of Latvia's independence. It was founded in 1919 and existed until 1940. Association in its activity declared impartiality - namely the independence of participants from the political and artistic conjuncture. The core of the organization formed realist artists proclaiming democratic ideals - Janis Jaunsudrabins, Eduards Brencens, Karlis Miesnieks, Aleksandrs Štrals, Indrikis Zeberinš, Peteris Kundzinš, Rihards Maurs, Karlis Suninš, Alfreds Plite — Pleite, Nikolajs Puzirevskis. In different years in society participated about 60 members. Art exhibitions were organized twice a year in Riga, Kaunas, Cesis, Liepaja, Ogre, Ventspils. The first exhibition was held in 1920. The Society had made a significant contribution to the cultural heritage of Latvian art and its promotion.
