Present third exhibition of Latvian art was organized by Latvian Culture Foundation, the institution which worked under the leadership of the Ministry of Education. From 1935-38 the Culture Foundation held four exhibitions of Latvian art of national importance, purposefully organized to demonstrate the unity of Latvian culture and popularize it among the public. The third exhibition, which was held in the halls of the Academy of Art presented 566 artworks by 206 artists. Among the participants were such headliners of the Latvian visual arts as Sigismunds Vidbergs, Uga Skulme, Janis Rozentals, Vilhelms Purvitis, Jekabs Bine, Nikolajs Bogdanovs-Belskis, Ludolfs Liberts, Gustavs Škilters and many others.

Exhibition catalog includes list of displayed works with prices and begins with the keynote of Karlis Ulmanis, whose personal contribution, as a head of state, to the development in the art life in Latvia was great. His achievable goal was a Latvian Latvia, which was to be attained with a truly Latvian art. In the authoritarian period of Ulmanis visual art is characteristic of ‘positivism’ – reflection of positive images, superiority of the agrarian world outlook, glorification of the national self-esteem and national ideas, praise of the authoritarianism, vindication of the ethnographic elements and ancient history.
