This was the first and for the time being the only one so large and extremely important Modernist French Art exhibition organized in Riga, representing completely different art movements and giving a comprehensive overview of French art in abridged evaluation from the past half century. The exhibition covers the period c. 1890-1939. Were displayed one or two, at most three works of each artist. Among participants were representatives of Post-Impressionism (mainly Nabis group members) - Pierre Bonnard, Maurice Denis, Kerr-Xavier Roussel, Felix Vallotton, Edouard Vuillard; Fauvists - Henri Matisse, Albert Marquet, Andre Derain, Raoul Dufy, Othon Friesz, Georges Rouault, Maurice Vlaminck, Kees van Dongen; Cubists - Georges Braque, Pablo Picasso, Andre Lhote, Juan Gris; also Jules Pascin, Maurice Utrillo, Chaim Soutine, Moise Kisling and many others. True art masterpieces exhibited here influenced many Latvian artists creation, who had never visited France.
