This brochure (rather monograph, than a catalog), published in conjuction with the avant-garde graphic artist and painter Dmitri Sobolev’s (1895-1962) exhibition held in 1930 in Moscow, provides valuable overview of his work and cultural activities. A member of „Kumach“ art society, participated in the exhibitions held by the art association “Svobodnoe iskusstvo" (the Free Art). From 1914 to 1930 he had organized 32 art exhibitions, known in the history of Russian art under the name “Sobolevskie”, with the participation of 194 artists, who in the pre-revolutionary period had been members of such art organizations as: “Mir Iskusstva” (the World of Art), “Sojuz russkikh khudozhnikov” (the Union of Russian Artists), “Peredvizhnaja” ( theTravelling Art Exhibitions), “Moskovskiy Salon” (the Moscow Salon), “Apollon” (the Apollo), “Moskovskoe tovarishestvo khudozhnikov” (the Moscow Association of Artists), etc. The key feature of these exhibitions was that they were mostly held not in the centres of big cities, but in the smaller and rural towns and suburbs, and combined works by mature famous artists and young yet unknown talents.

The publication includes introductory article, giving characteristic of artist’s creation, seven full-page illustrations reproducing artworks from the current exhibition, short text overviewing Sobolev’s cultural activity i.e. series of exhibitions organized by him, and in the end, and in only few lines, the catalog directly to this exhibition, where were presented 60 graphical works from three last cycles (20 from each cycle) created in the last decade (1921-1930).
