[Vystavka kartin Obshchestva Khudozhnikov "Zhar-Tsvet"] : Katalog vystavki 1929 ([Cover title: Exhibition of Works of the Society of Artists "Fire-Bright Bloom"] : Exhibition Catalogue 1929)

Very Good condition; front wrapper shows some small light brown stains to the upper edge and creases across corners, soft vertical book-length creaser throughout, multiple stress lines across the spine.  

Creative association of painters and graphic artists Zhar-Tsvet incorporated in Moscow in 1923-1929. It was founded by the group of former participants of the societies Mir Iskusstva (the World of Art), Moskovskiy Salon (the Moscow Salon), Sojuz Russkikh Khudozhnikov (the Union of Russian Artists), Novoe Obshestvo Khudozhnikov (the New Society of Artists). In their work, the members of the association relied on the traditions of the World of Art, aspiring to what they called “compositional realism on the basis of the artistic mastery“. In the introductory to the 4rd exhibition catalog, art historian Aleksei Sidorov writes: “The artists of the Zhar-Tsvet are clearly united by the pursuit of painting composition, since the latter is opposed to the “etude”, a triumphant in the modern painting.” Zhar-Tsvet acted mainly as an exhibition association, in the five years of its existance were held 5 large-scale exhibitions in Moscow.

Current, the 5th and the last Zhar-Tsvet exhibition held at the halls of the Moscow State University in 1929 included 188 artworks, mainly paintings, but also some graphics, by 44 participanting artists: Vasily Vatagin, Mikhail Kharlamov, Yevgeny Kamzolkin, Sergei Lobanov, Julia Razumovskaya,  Sergei Pichugin, Ilya Sokolov, Maximilian Voloshin and many others.
